Shavuot
Shavuot is celebrated this year from sunset on Thursday, 21 May, and ends at nightfall on Saturday, May 23 at 10: 14 pm. It celebrates the date that G‑d gave the Torah to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai, 3,338 years ago.
It is celebrated by lighting candles, staying up all night to learn Torah, hearing the reading of the Ten Commandments in synagogue, feasting on dairy foods and resting from everyday work. Learn more about Shavuot here.
Candle lighting for Shavuot on Thursday evening is at 8:46 pm. Candles are also lit on Friday for both the second day of Shavuot and for Shabbat at 8:48pm. Blessing for the Holiday and Shabbat candles can be found here.

Chabad’s Loud Truth
From Sinai’s Thunder to Boldness in the Streets
Chabad’s loud, unapologetic approach to Jewish outreach might seem surprising—but it’s quite ancient: it mirrors the dramatic revelation at Mount Sinai. Thunder and lightning accompanied the Giving of the Torah, and Chabad’s visible presence in public spaces reaffirms that every corner of the world belongs to G-d.
