The Bristol Mikvah

Why a Mikvah?

Although Bristol is home to the oldest archaeological Mikvah site in Europe (Jacobs Well) it hasn’t had a functioning Mikvah in over one hundred and twenty years! Together, weare going to change that!

A mikvah is more than a ritual bath, it is a foundation of Jewish life. According to Jewish law, its construction takes precedence over a synagogue, ensuring the continuity of Jewish families and communities.

For generations, Jews have built mikvahs everywhere—from Masada to the Soviet Union. Today, they enrich Jewish life worldwide.

Currently, there is no mikvah within 40 miles of Bristol, making it difficult for Jewish women in our communities to observe this mitzvah. A local mikvah would remove this barrier, strengthening our community, serving as a resource for the entire South West region and securing a vibrant Jewish future for generations to come!
